Best fondue in Val d'Isère
The guide to must visit restaurants for cheese lovers
A highlight of any ski holiday in the Alps is the classic Savoyard cuisine.
One of which is a traditional fondue and if you're heading to Val d'Isère, you'll be happy to hear the resort is littered with great spots to feed yourself into a cheese coma.
Worth knowing
Le Coin Savoyard
Located in Les Balmes de l'Ours hotel, this restaurant focuses on local specialties and using local products. When it comes to fondues you can choose between Savoyard or Burgandy fondues. Or there are plenty of other items on the menu for those already cheesed out.
Avancher
This restaurant is found within the Avancher hotel. Amongst their wonderful varied menu, there are three fondues to choose from: traditional Savoyarde, the Savoyarde with mushrooms or the Swiss cheese option.
La Gourmandine
A pretty little spot open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It has a lovely terrace outside which makes it a great place to stop for lunch, as long as you can move to put your skis or snowboard on afterwards. Traditional food plus desserts that are well rated.
Le Lodge
Luckily for you if fondue is what you're after, this place is a favourite with the locals and has one of the best fondues in town. But don't just take our word for it. For those not in for a cheese fest, there are other options on the menu and the bar is very popular for aprés-ski, so if you're keen for an early dinner, you can either head home for a lie down after or dance it off to the DJs playlist.
La Grande Ourse
Open for lunch and dinner, this mountain-side restaurant is found in a beautiful old chalet and has been feeding hungry skiers since the thirties. Amongst a fantastic hearty menu you'll find fondue, so be sure to call in here for lunch or dinner. And if you enjoy your wines then you'll be glad to know the owners have their own vineyard in the Rhône valley.
1789 Restaurant
Popular restaurant serving local specialties including fondue. Open in winter only for dinner, make sure you reserve in advance to avoid any disappointment. This is a cosy bolt-hole that is perfect for a winter's evening, where certain dishes are cooked over the open fire.
