Val d'Isere oficially opening this weekend for the 2017/18 season
This Saturday the 25th marks the official opening of the connected ski area of Val d’Isere and Tignes. Big snowfalls in throughout November and the tireless work of the pisteurs mean the resort is opening in excellent condition.
In Tignes, the Grande Motte, Toviére and Palet sectors will all be open, skiable all the way down to the resort. The beginner areas in Val Claret and Lavachet will also be open and are completely free of charge, for those that want a gentle introduction to ski or snowboarding.
Val d’Isere sees the Pissailla/Iseran, Solaise and Bellevarde/Daille sectors open for business. Pistes will be skiable all the way down to La Daille. The new Datcha chairlift will be running, improving access to the Solaise summit area.
Over the weekend, you’ll be able to test skis and snowboards from all the big manufacturers, from Black Crows to Bataleon at the Ski Force Winter Tour. There’ll be slopeside music and drinks as you peruse the latest toys the industry has to offer.
In Tignes, the weekend marks the start of the Sport Values conference, a week of debates, networking and film screenings aimed at exploring the ethics in sport and its nature as a powerful force for change big and small.
With a mixture of snow and sun this weekend and a host of interesting events, there’s sure to be something for everyone. Check out the piste maps for the area before you head out, and keep an eye on the weather.
